ART JOINS C.A.R.T INDYLIGHTS INSPECTION

Advanced Racing Technologies (ART) of Staatsburg, New York and Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan take another step in technology supplying CART Indylights with the new Laser String II for the 1999 Indylights inspection process. The Laser String II is a custom laser head system using laser line generation technology developed by A.R.T. for CART technical inspection in 1996.

The laser head has three axis adjustment capabilities in "Z", Roll, and Pitch. Both roll and pitch use fine 127 pitch adjusters giving the customer 5 micron resolution. This laser-optical system that creates a high-definition visual horizontal reference plane that will be used for measuring conformance with CART Indylights technical specifications. According to Gary Donahue and Pete Steiner of CART Indylights typical uses are measurement of: side pod height, pickup points, rear wing heights, center floor pan, and gear box.

The Laser String II has been tested by NASCAR inspection this past fall and is currently under proposal for implementation into their inspection process for their top four race series for 1999. The NASCAR configuration consists of three Laser String II heads used in the vertical beam configuration. The Laser String II is the big brother of the highly successful portable "Laser String" used for high speed rear and front axle alignments.
