FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ART and IndyCar Continue Development Work on "Indy Transit"

Advanced Racing Technologies (ART) of Staatsburg, New York, and Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, have agreed to continue development work on the laser-based "Indy Transit" reference measuring device into 1997. The system has been an integral component of CART's Technical Inspection process throughout this year's CART Championship.

The man-portable "Indy Transit" is a purpose built laser-optical system that creates a high-definition, visual reference plain for use in measuring conformance with CART's technical specifications. Current enhancements include work on a 360 degree rotary head which allows officials to adapt the device to measure rear wing height. Additionally, the new head allows calibration to be done in the pit lane rather than on the setup pad which speeds the inspection process. The rotary system was first tested at the 1996 running of the Michigan 500.
